General Dentistry

General dentistry is a branch of dentistry that deals with preventing, diagnosing, and treating oral diseases.

“Love conquers all things except toothache.”For that, you need a dentist. Visit our general dental clinics in Corrimal (Wollongong Region), Penrith, Kotara (Newcastle Region), Tuggerah (Central Coast), and Wilton for expert care.

According to the National Institutes of Health, around one-third of Australian adults have undiagnosed dental issues. If left untreated, maladies like tooth decay or cavities can lead to a lot of pain and even cancer! However, this can be easily avoided if you visit a general dentistry clinic regularly.

General Dental Checkups & Cleaning

A general dental checkup is a routine examination when a Supercare dentist checks your teeth and gums to make sure they’re healthy. It’s a bit like getting a regular health check, but just for your mouth!

During your visit for dental checkup, the dentist will:

  • Look closely to see if you have any cavities (holes in your teeth), gum problems, or other dental issues.
  • Gently clean your teeth to remove sticky stuff like plaque and tartar that brushing can’t always get.
  • Take X-rays to see what’s happening inside your teeth and gums.
  • Talk with you about how to keep your mouth clean and healthy at home.

Most people should get a dental checkup every six months as recommended by our expert dentists with 20+ years of experience. But if there’s a problem, the dentist might ask you to come back sooner for frequent checkups.

General Dentists Check for Structural Damage

Oral health can be tricky. While brushing your teeth twice everyday, flossing, and mouthwash are helpful, you cannot check for gum diseases or structural damage, like cavities or attrition.

Our general dentists can help you by providing :

  • Visual inspections: The dentist will look at your teeth for any signs of cracks, chips, or fractures.
  • Percussion Testings: The dentist will tap on your teeth with a small instrument to see if they are sensitive to pressure.
  • Mobility Testings: The general dentist will gently move your teeth to see if they are loose.
  • Radiographs: X-rays can help the dentist see the inside of your teeth and gums, which can help them to identify any structural damage that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

General Dentistry FAQs

Dental fissure sealants are a preventive dental treatment that helps protect the chewing surfaces of your teeth from decay. They are a thin, plastic coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces of your teeth to fill in the grooves and pits, making them easier to clean and protect from decay. Dental sealants are typically applied to the back teeth (molars and premolars) because these teeth have the deepest grooves and pits.

General dentistry is the branch of dentistry that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and disorders of the teeth, gums, and supporting structures. The general dentists at Supercare are trained to provide a wide range of dental services, including dental checkups and cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals, extractions, teeth whitening, and more.

Oral and maxillofacial procedures are a broad range of surgical and non-surgical procedures that are performed on the mouth, jaws, and facial bones. They include cosmetic procedures, dental implant surgery, putting in crowns, root canals, extraction, and more, all of which you can avail of at a Supercare Dental clinic.

During a medical check-up the dentist will first ask you about your dental history. After examining your teeth, they may recommend a clean-up or getting an X-ray, depending on their diagnosis. Finally, they will inform you about how you can better take care of your oral health. If you’re visiting a Supercare clinic, we will also provide you with a payment plan for your treatment.

Apart from the general check-up and cleaning, a general dentist also provides other dental services like fillings, crowns, root canals, implants, sealants, gum disease treatment braces, aligners, and more.

If you are visiting a general dentist at a Supercare near you, you can expect painless procedures, exceptional service, professional treatment, free first consultations, and payment planning. Our general dental services, with your regular co-operation, will ensure that you never have to suffer from toothache, cavities, or any other dental maladies.
